Present Simple tense

In today's lesson, we will look at the Present simple tense, one of the most widely used tenses in English.

Present Simple Tense - The present simple tense is used for continuous, unchanging, or repetitive actions. In this case, the main verb itself is present in the prepositions, the auxiliary verbs do / does and the main verb are present in the interrogative and negative sentences.

Positive form:

I work.

He/she/it works.

We/you/they work.

 Negative form:

I do not (don't) work.

He/she/it does not (doesn't) work.

We/you/they do not (don't) work.

 Question form:

Do I work?

Does he/she/it work?

Do we/you/they work?

In the modern world, the meaning of a verb varies from person to person.

·     I person singular and plural (I, we), II person singular and plural (you), III-person plural (they) are not added to the verb.

In the third person singular (he, she, it), the letter -s is added to the main verb.

He works, she works ...

·   If the verb ends with the letters -o, -ch, -sh, -ss, -s, -x, the verb -es must be added.

·   She goes, it washes.

No letter is added to the main verb due to the use of the auxiliary verb does in the third person singular in interrogative and negative sentences.

·   He doesn’t work, she doesn’t go, it doesn’t wash.

·   Does he work? Does she go? Does it wash?
