Earlier this year, the stunning images of a crystal clear river from the state
of Meghalaya has left netizens on social media in awe! The Ministry of Jal
Shakti took to Twitter to share the glimpses of this magnificent Umngot (Dawki) river
from Shillong. While declaring the Umngot (Dawki) river as the cleanest river in the
country, the ministry wrote, "It seems as if the boat is in the air; water
is so clean and transparent. Wish all our rivers were as clean. Hats off to the
people of Meghalaya."
As seen in the picture, the pristine water of the river is so transparent and clear, that one can see through the pebbles and stones beneathe the river. For viewers, this picture is a visual treat for several reasons. Firstly, the boat in the river appears to be gliding through the air in a seemless manner; apart from it, the people sitting on the boat looks rather unreal as there aren't many ripplease and lastly, the picture presents a greenish tone of the water which represents the beauty of the nature and hence, is extremely soothing to the eyes.
Recently in his Mann Ki Baat episode, Prime Minsiter stressed upon the need to conserve nature and in this regards, he mentioned the Umngot river. He said, "I have been watching on social media the picture of a flying boat in Meghalaya that is becoming viral. This picture catches our attention at the very first sight itself. Most of you must have certainly seen it online.When we look closely at this boat floating in the air, we come to know that it is moving on the river water. The water of the river is so clear that we can see its bed and the boat seems to be floating in the air."
The small border town Dawki (West Jaintia Hills district) of Meghalaya is popular for its famous Umngot river and a beautiful suspension bridge. It is a major tourist destination in Meghalaya. Dawki lies between India and Bangladesh and is the trade hub between the two countries.

Popularly known as Dawki river, Umngot is 100 kilometre from
Shillong in Meghalaya.It is undisputedly the cleanest river in Asia with its
crystal clear water.
It originates from the Eastern Shillong Peak, which is located 1,800 m above
sea level.
Umngot river is in the village of Mawlynnong ("God's Own Garden") in
Meghalaya, close to India’s border with Bangladesh, which is touted as Asia’s
Cleanest Village.
Alongside cleanliness, the village has also achieved a rare feat — a 100%
literacy rate.
It acts as a natural divide between Jaintia and Khasi hills, before finally
flowing into Bangladesh.
